In the build of this house we chose to use Onyx, a natural stone, to create an impressive feature wall that was also backlit with LED in the main foyer as well as in the powder room. The stone is easily accessible if parts were to fail and also absolutely safe where there would be no chance of the stone falling in the future. In the main foyer we came up with the idea to support the stone from the rear with solid backing around the perimeter.n front we use the same concept, but with finished trim that can be removed if needed.

In the powder room where Onyx was also used for the ceiling and the sink, we took a different approach for the ceiling slabs because using a trim piece for support underneath would not be viable as a safety concern. The idea was to create a drop ceiling with a lip around all sides that was smaller than the Onyx slab that was going to be placed on the ceiling. By doing this, we created a structural support system for the Onyx. Surprisingly, the most “difficult” aspect of the Onyx was making sure the lighting was sufficient and evenly spread throughout.
